Аннотация:
Time use shows how long, when, and where individuals spend their time. It is an indicator of everyday life. Once compared to adult time use, children's time use is not as well explored in the contemporary social sciences. Nonetheless, time use is considered in a number of worldwide indices of children's well-being, and specific elements of time use are researched in the fields of psychology, sociology, marketing, and healthcare.
There is no defined methodology for researching how children spend their time in Russia. The Federal State Statistics Service includes 10+ years old participants but there is no other information except time use and socio-economic characteristics in the survey. There is a gap in measuring children’s time as an indicator of well-being. Though, children’s well-being is one of the Russian national priorities.
At the seminar the first stages of development of a unique children light diary are discussed. It explores their time use based on the outcomes of the scientific project “Time Use Indicators for Measuring National Well-being” of Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre. It includes data from children who reported their activities for 2 days: last weekday and last weekend with 30 minutes breaks, including contextual variables such as locations, companions, online or offline format of the activities, and satisfaction with the time of each activity. It is based on the theoretical approaches to studying children’s time use and on the qualitative part of the research project.
