Аннотация:

This research is devoted to exploring the factors of pro-environmental behavior, which is considered as a set of actions aimed at minimizing the negative anthropological impact on the environment. The purpose of this study is to determine direct and indirect determinants of pro-environmental behavior based on the theory of planned behavior developed by Icek Ajzen, norm-activation model of Shalom H. Schwartz, and modernization theory of Ronald F. Inglehart and Christian Welzel. The material for the analysis is data from the ISSP 2020 module (Environment IV). The database includes 44100 observations across 28 countries. This study uses multi-level (hierarchical) modeling as the main research method, where the first level is represented by individuals, and the second is presented by countries. As the result of analysis, three determinants that have a statistically significant positive direct effect on all kinds of pro-environmental behavior. Those determinants include level of education, commitment to post-materialist values, and pro-environmental intentions. Some of the factors considered in the study (gender, age, income level) have a significant effect only on certain types of pro-environmental behavior. The structure of the research is as follows: firstly, we discuss existing research relevant to this topic and their results, as well as the theoretical grounds of the research; secondly, the chosen data, variables and method of data analysis are described; thirdly, the obtained results and their interpretation are represented; and the conclusions provide a summary of the entire study.
