The experts in Open Economy (OPEC.ru) wrote about the main results of a joint study conducted by EDB, UNDP, LCSR HSE and RAS titled "Labour migration and labour-intensive industries in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan: opportunities for human development in Central Asia", which main purpose was to identify trends, characteristics and prospects of development of migration from Central Asia to Russia.

LCSR`s part of the research was devoted to the examination of the migrants` values. Despite some decline in migration from Central Asia to Russia in 2014, in 2015 the volume of migration and immigration returned to the previous level, said LCSR Deputy Director Tatiana Karabchuk. Contemporary Russia is the absolute leader among host countries both in terms of flows of migration from Central Asia, and in regard to positive migration sentiments. EDB integration barometer data shows that citizens of Central Asian countries come to Russia not only for temporary employment but also for studying and taking up permanent residence. LCSR study showed that migration from Central Asia to Russia is also encoraged by values factors: migrants from Central Asia feel much closer to Russia in terms of values than to the EU countries or United States, which can partly be explained by a common Soviet past. On the whole, the conducted study about migration could serve as the basis for recommendations for Migration Policy Development in the Central Asian countries.
