Preliminary Agenda
Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (HSE) announces a call for the 4th LCSR International Workshop “Social and Cultural changes in cross-national perspective: values and modernization” which will be held within theXV April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development of the National Research University Higher School of Economics on March 28 – April 4 in Moscow.
The workshop aims at developing empirical quantitative comparative (cross-country and cross-regional) studies in social science.
The conference topics are:
- Social Well-Being and Its Measurement
- Social Solidarity and Welfare States
- Values, Trust and Happiness
- Nationalism, Ethnicity and Migration
- Gender, Work and Life Satisfaction
- Political Regimes, Elections and Elites
- Religiosity and Tolerance
- Social Change and Genetic Diversity
- Informal relations, Civic Engagement and Corruption
- Social Justice, Aging and Generations
Keynote speakers are:
- Ronald Inglehart (Scientific Director, LCSR, HSE and Professor, University of Michigan, USA),
- Christian Welzel (Associate Professor, HSE and Professor, University Leufana, Germany)
- Peter Hedstrom (Institute for Futures Studies, Sweden)
- Eduard Ponarin (NRU HSE, Saint-Petersburg, Russia)
- Jan Dehley (Jacobs University Bremen, Germany)
- Christian Haerpfer (University of Aberdeen, UK)
- Robert Andersen (University of Toronto, Canada)
Participation at the workshop is possible via entering the LCSR research network. The main purpose of the research network is to attract young scholars to work on their own projects under the guidance of the LCSR experts (Ronald Inglehart, Eduard Ponarin, Christian Welzel). The application deadline for entering the network is January 25, 2014. The notification of acceptance will be given by February 10. Please send applications to hse.lcss@gmail.com with the following information:
- 2 pages Curriculum Vitae;
- 5 pages Project Description: Name of author, affiliation, title, abstract of 200 words, main goal, brief literature review, main hypothesis, data description, methodology description and preliminary results;
The application should meet the following requirements:
- The paper should be empirical and analyze processes of social change in comparative perspective (more than 5 countries) using quantitative methods;
- The paper should address one or several topics of the workshop.
Working language is English.
LCSR provides accommodation at HSE Guest House only for presenters and speakers. Travel expenses are covered only for LCSR associated members.
