Multilevel Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MCFA) and Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling (MSEM) in MPLUS

Instructors:

Hermann Dülmer  is professor at University of Cologne. He is a well known methodologist who is also currently the head of  Data Archive for the Social Sciences  in  GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences . Professor Dülmer has huge experience in teaching multilevel analysis at various summer schools including Summer School on Multilevel Analysis in Lisbon and LCSR summer school of 2011.
Kirill Zhirkov received an MSc degree from Utrecht University and M.A. from European University at Saint Petersburg. He is currently a LCSR research fellow. Kirill will be assisting professor Dülmer during the course.

Course Objectives:

For a long time structural equation modeling and multilevel regression analysis developed as two separate areas of statistical analysis. Since statistical software packages like Mplus are available the situation has changed: multilevel regression analysis is no longer restricted to analyzing the relationship between observed variables, multilevel structural equation modeling is no longer restricted to non-nested data. Combining both approaches does not only allow to estimate latent variables in a multilevel framework (ML CFA: multilevel confirmatory factor analysis) but also opens the opportunity to estimate more complex relationships between observed and/or latent variables within the broader framework of multilevel structural equation modeling (ML SEM).
The aim of the course is to give an introduction into multilevel confirmatory factor analysis and multilevel structural equation modeling. Starting with two-level confirmatory factor analysis the first week will also cover two-level structural equation modeling. During the second week the participants will get the opportunity to work on an own multilevel model.

Prerequisites:

Participating in this course requires basic knowledge about multilevel analysis as well as about structural equation modeling. The participants should also be familiar with SPSS
