Congratulations to Dmitry Arkadov on Successful Dissertation Defense for the Degree of Candidate of Political Sciences

On October 1, Dmitry Arkadov, a Research Assistant at the Ronald F. Inglehart Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Political Sciences. Here’s what Dmitry shared about his work and future professional plans.

About the topic

"My dissertation is titled "The Formation and Function of Mechanisms of Electronic Participation in Russia's Regions". Electronic participation usually refers to various digital channels through which citizens and the government interact to solve administrative issues. We have many such channels in Russia, especially in the regions, and I wanted to find out what impacts the creation and development of these channels. Since I am primarily a political scientist, it was important for me to understand this aspect. However, the work ended up being multidisciplinary from all points of view: it turned out that there is a plethora of factors – from the openness of regional bureaucracy to the presence of local IT specialists".

About future plans

"After my doctoral studies, life has just begun – and I have many plans. First of all, I want to focus on the projects planned by the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research: analyzing subjective well-being in connection with other phenomena. In terms of teaching, I want to continue delivering courses on statistical analysis, as this is perhaps my greatest interest – even a bit more than social sciences! Ultimately, I plan to continue self-education, especially in expanding my skills in statistical causal analysis."

We congratulate our colleague on the successful defense and wish him further professional success!
