LCSR Summer School Day 5

Alexandra Shishova tells about the last working day of the first week of the Summer School!

The fifth day of the summer school started earlier than usually. The theoretical session by Peter Schmidt started at 9 a.m., it was followed by a coffee break. 11 a.m. was the  time to  begin the guest lecture of the day. Igor Zadorin, the founder of Euroasian Monitor”, with colleagues gave a speech about results of the "Integrations Barometer EABR" project. The lecture was very interesting and instructive, and caused a lot of questions. The data from the report could be a good basis for further research.

After lunch we had a practical session about confirmatory factor analysis, at that time almost everybody had a chance to take a part in interpretation of the model results.  Then the regular LSCR session started. This day all three presented projects were new.

Irina Vartanova from Saint-Petersburg State University talked about the idea of her research of students’ attitudes to political and economic stability. She took the cases of Russia and the USA and is planning to gather data in Russia mostly by herself. She is doing The USA part of the project with some colleagues.

Next speaker – Elena Kolotova - from Higher School of Economics in Moscow is planning to elaborate a methodology  for comparison of student expulsion in Russia and other countries. Elena started her presentation from questions to the audience about the percentage of students who do not complete higher education. One of the listeners was very close to the right answer.

The last speaker of the day was Anna Mironova. Her new project is connected with family intergenerational transfers and their factors. All researchers are on first stages of their research, so the discussion after every presentation helped them a lot.

The end of the day was very lovely, everybody had enough time to have a walk and relax.  Friday ended with the great sauna and good talks.
