What does the Pride in ones Country mean?

An interview with Marharyta Fabrykant, LCSR Associate Researcher, Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Comparative Studies of Mass Consciousness, HSE, was published in the latest edition of Russkiy Reporter Magazine. The article is titled "The Pride of refuge: why people tend to love their country".

According the latest survey conducted by Levada Center, 70% of Russian citizen are proud of present Russia, and the share of those who are proud of the very fact of living in Russia, even goes up to 83%. The percent is the most highest recorded in the period of eight years in Russia.

In the interview Margarita Fabrikant comment on these indicators, and explains what the national pride is and how it is different from the ideas of patriotism and nationalism. She distinguishes between two types of national pride - normative and rational one. Margarita concluded that high levels of pride for the country may have both an external explanation, namely, the promotion of patriotism in the country, and the internal individual pride of living in the place where all the life takes course.
