Happiness in the major cities

An article titled "Loneliness in concrete jungles: why people living in the major cities suffer from the lack of communication" was published in the latest issue of the Russian newspaper "Vechernyaya Moscva". Ekaterina Lytkina, Junior Research Fellow of LCSR HSE, was invited by the correspondents as an expert on the issue of social isolation in urban space.

Correspondents of the Russian newspaper "Vechernyaya Moscva" continues to explore the trends observed in the modern society. An article titled "Loneliness in concrete jungles: why people living in the major cities suffer from the lack of communication" was published in the latest issue.

The article addresses the phenomenon of loneliness in the big city. The main question is "why people alienate from each other and whether the correct layout of the city may solve the problem". Ekaterina Lytkina, Junior Research Fellow of LCSR HSE, was invited by the correspondents as an expert on the issue of social isolation in urban space. In the interview she rehearsed possible solutions for the problem of rising isolation of the citizen. Ekaterina explained why people living in major cities with a lot of possibilities and freedoms, become more isolated and unhappy. She listed historical and country examples of city planning’s to show how the environment can shape the character of social relations in society. Ekaterina adduced reasons how the competent organization of urban space can improve the human relations in urban environment and make people`s lives more pleasant, more comfortable, and happier.
