The Laboratory for Comparative Social Research announces the next regular seminar, which will be held as a zoom session on January, 28 at 16-30 p.m. (GMT+3). Anna Zagrebina (The Montreal Centre for International Studies — CÉRIUM, Canada) will deliver a report “Concepts of Democracy in Democratic and Nondemocratic Countries”.

A link to zoom session will be sent after registration: https://lcsr.hse.ru/en/polls/437431940.html.

This study analyzed how democratic experience affects citizens’ understanding of democracy. The evidence from the World Values Survey (WVS) shows that the concept of democracy among citizens differs in democratic and nondemocratic societies. Democratic citizens associate democracy principally with gender equality, while people in nondemocratic countries associate it more strongly with a prospering economy and social control.
