LCSR Summer School. Day 2

Ruslan Almukhametov's report

Third LCSR Summer School keeps going on in Zelenogorsk. Ruslan Almukhametov (research assistant at LCSR) reports about the second day of the school.

School participants gathered in the dining room where they quickly exchanged their views on the first day of school. “I fell asleep quickly, I don’t know why. Maybe because of the fresh air or tight schedule of the classes and activities”, one of the school participants told.

In the morning the participants had their first practical class of “Introduction to Mplus” where they could perform their first calculations on an example dataset, provided by Professor Hermann Duelmer (University of Cologne). Professor Duelmer and his assistant Kirill Zhirkov (LCSR, Saint-Petersburg) answered many questions of the students during the practice session.

After lunch the second session of LCSR progress reports took place. Sofya Lopatina presented a progress report of a group project “Attitudes towards sexual and family behavior: does security matter?” Session continued with the final report of Alexander Kustov on the project “The agent based model of Ethnic Structure and Civil conflict”. Both reports were extensively commented by Bogdan Voicu and Kirill Zhirkov and lead to a very productive discussion.

Progress reports session was followed by invigorating teambuilding activity organized by Tatiana Karabchuk (LCSR, Deputy Director). Then Alexander Kustov proceeded with the second class on “LATEX for Social Scientists”. At the end of this long, but very interesting and stimulating day, people enjoyed outdoor games, and played volleyball with pleasure.
