Appy meteo: does happiness of others affect self-reported happiness of individuals? (ongoing; 2013-2014)
We apply ESM (Experience Sampling Method) by using an app, Appy Meteo, which asks users to self-report their level of happiness. The app provides meteorological forecasts of happiness of the day after for users. Each person can monitor the personal predicted level of happiness and can compare his/her level of happiness with that of his/her peers, through a game in which two different users can fill a questionnaire and compare in real time their self-reported level of happiness. By exploring the effect of relative comparisons with others, we are going to investigate results which can shed light on the distinction between overall subjective well-being and instantaneous wellbeing, which is gaining attention in recent years. The app is collecting data on the entire territory of Italy.
