Исследовательский проект:

"Active Ageing Components as the Determinants of Subjective Well-Being in the Late Life Period": This project aims to explore the link between subjective well-being (SWB) and the social component of active ageing in East European countries including Russia. Active ageing process contains several key elements: physical, psychological and mental health, economic, social, cultural, political activity, physical, financial and social security. At the same time, active ageing assumes high level of SWB. Thus, the project investigates how various types of social activity influence on SWB in the late life period. The study is based on the 6-th wave of European Social Survey (2012) and the 6-th wave of World Values Survey (2010-2014). The research covers the elderly 50+ in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. SWB is measured by the scales of life satisfaction and happiness. Social activity indicators are the presence and frequency of social contacts with friends and relatives, volunteering, religion, civil rights. The methods used in the project are: (1) correlation analysis between SWB indicators and social activity variables; (2) ordinary regression between the level of life satisfaction/happiness and social activity indicators. Previous studies find the positive impact of social relations on SWB in the late life. At the same time, various types of social contacts, their quality and quantity have controversial outcomes. Preliminary research results show that volunteering has the most significant impact on life satisfaction and happiness of the elderly. Active participation in church, religious or sport organizations increases feeling of happiness whereas participation in environmental, consumer organizations or professional association does not make the significant effect.
