New article by senior research fellow of LCSR Peter Meylakhs was published in HSE web-site OPEC.ru. The article is titled "AIDS-dissident needs medical attention".

New article by senior research fellow of LCSR (Saint-Petersburg) Peter Meylakhs was published in the expert HSE web-site "Open Economy" OPEC.ru. The article titled "AIDS-dissident needs medical attention" provides an information about recent survey conducted by Peter. Unfortunately, there is not many works devoted to the problem of AIDS-dissident practices in Russia, although the subject is acute and urgent for the country. Basing the arguments on the study of Russia's largest online community of AIDS dissidents, one of the most popular social networks, the author concludes that "AIDS dissident practices – the denial of the reality of HIV or AIDS – are related not only to psychological factors. The practical experience of HIV infection does not always correspond to what is used to be known about HIV and AIDS, and this contributes to recruiting AIDS dissidents who deliberately refuse to heal and prevent future infection ... "

 

* Results of the study "An AIDS-Denialist Online Community on a Russian Social Networking Service: Patterns of Interactions With Newcomers and Rhetorical Strategies of Persuasion" have been published in international peer-reviewed journal «Journal of Medical Internet Research». The journal specialies on the impact of the Internet on the medicine.
